We stayed away from all of the museums and most of the churches and this time decided to simply wander around the city and take in all of its beauty. It's so easy to get caught up in all of the tourist spots that you can sometimes end up spending the whole day indoors, with one museum blending into the next. And since it was such a beautiful day, we definitely wanted to spend as much of it outside as we possibly could. There's something about the old buildings and countless cathedrals that I find to be so beautiful. It's as though it is stuck in another time and with my huge love of period novels and movies -- it doesn't get much better than this for me. It is quite a crowded city, but we easily found the little pockets that were off the busy paths and were able to see Florentine living in the works. I always wonder what it would be like to live your life in a place like this -- where everything looks like a movie set and there are constant hoards of tourists around you, but I suppose it's like anything and you find your rhythm within it. I doubt I will ever have the opportunity, but I would love to spend some real time here to see what life would be like. When I look back, I would say that Florence is my favorite city that I have visited in Italy, which is a big call because there are so many beautiful towns in this country, each with its own personality and charm. But for me, Florence has a magic to it that can't be matched.
