I recently had someone comment on my blog asking if I own anything other than oversized shorts and bikenstocks. It made me laugh because yup, I do! But they're just so dang comfortable, it's all I want to wear. Now that we're in Thailand with this suffocating heat, I think they might just come out a little more.
The last couple of days were a little cooler and it had seriously gotten my hopes up that we were finally getting into the cool season. It was just a psych out but it did allow me to see the city in a different light and I am starting to see the beauty of it. It's back to hot again today, so I've been hiding inside and enjoy the glorious the glorious ac but I'm excited to get out and explore a little more on the cooler days.
This morning, we went to pick up some things at the grocery store and once we got out, we realized it was back to scorching. You really need to get everything in before 10am otherwise the heat sets in. I find the main roads to be a little too much when it's like this, so we usually try to stick to the back streets. This street is pretty typical to what you would see, with a bunch of little shops, homes and cars parked along the way. But the main thing is the shade! Oh how I love that backstreet shade.
Each of the side streets looks pretty similar to the last, but it's once you start looking at the shops that you realize the real diversity of the place. There are countless little restaurants and shops all hidden amongst the buildings. Most of them would easily be overlooked if you weren't paying attention. We've found so many little restaurants that we've walked past at least 10 times before and then they turn out to be the most amazing hidden gems. I love this part about a new place -- discovering all the amazing local spots and finding your favorites. I think it will take a while to discover them all here, but we're definitely going to give it a try!
