Off The Shoulder Dress Love

It's easy to see why off the shoulder dresses are so popular right now -- they have this alluring quality to them that makes the wearer look so feminine and romantic in the best way possible.
Without showing too much skin, OTSDs are incredibly sexy and in this look, it's all about the clavicles. I personally have never had collarbones that stick out too much or what you would call delicate shoulders, but there's something about this style that works for almost everyone. The trick is to find a cut that hits you at the right spot. Most OTSDs can sit quite high and hit you at the widest spot of your body -- making you look even wider than you are. The trick is to find one that sits a bit lower on the arms so that you can see where the body ends and the arm begins. This separation will cause a slimming effect that is so incredibly flattering.

When I was designing this dress for KAYVALYA, my primary objective was to create a style that was comfortable and would never ever pop up over your shoulders when you move your arms. It also couldn't be restrictive -- I wanted the wearer to be able to move freely and go about their day like a regular person (maybe just a little prettier). I also wanted to give options, so that you could choose to wear the dress off the shoulders one day and then over the shoulders the next. I'm so happy with the way the Rosie dress turned out. It couldn't be more flattering or comfortable. The elastic at the waist allows for a nice billowing effect of the material and the ruffles at the bottom move so beautifully in the wind.

This particular fabric turned out to be the softest once we washed it, and I just can't get over the print. Seriously, how adorable is this for spring and summer? I've worn it with a belt in these photos, but you can style it however you choose. I personally think this dress looks so pretty with a leather jacket and boots for those early spring days, then with open toe sandals once the weather warms up.

Like I mentioned a couple of posts ago, we're headed to the Hunter Valley in a couple of weeks and I'm really looking forward to it. It's seriously cooling down in NSW at the moment and I'm getting a little worried it might be a bit too chilly for the wardrobe I had in mind. I was hoping to bring this particular dress for a dinner at a beautiful winery overlooking the vineyards, but I think I'll have to wait until a little closer to the date to see if it's feasible. If not, then I'll have to suck it up and wear those jeans and sweaters I've been dreading, then start to plan our next summer getaway. It is meant to be our year of summer after-all and this dress is just too pretty to lock away in a closet :)
