The Waterfalls of Ubud

Fashion and travel blogger, Alison Hutchinson, is wearing the KAYVALYA Maya Play dress in white at the Tegenungan Waterfalls in Ubud, Bali
One of the most Instagrammed spots in Bali is the Tegenungan Waterfall, just outside of Ubud. I'm always a sucker for a beautiful view, so after seeing so many gorgeous shots, of course I had to go. We decided to get up nice and early to beat the crowds and am so glad that we did.

The falls aren't too huge, but they are certainly beautiful and you can get up nice and close for a front row view. I love places like this in SEA because there's no safety fencing or ropes to ruin your shot -- everything is an "at your own risk" kind of view. You may not want to let your kids run wild at the top of the falls, but the views are gorgeous and totally worth it.  There was a photoshoot just finishing up when we got there with the model wearing a full mermaid costume. It looked like it would have turned out amazing and I wish I could have seen the shots from it. Maybe they'll pop up somewhere soon!

Although we didn't completely have the place to ourselves, it wasn't overcrowded when we first arrived. At around 9:30, more people started to arrive so I would recommend getting there before that. This was one of the only spots we visited in Bali that charged an entrance fee. It wasn't anything bad -- maybe $1 CAD or something like that, but there's another fee for around the same once you get inside that allows you to climb to the top. Again, not a bad fee or anything, but just make sure to bring some cash with you down to the falls because you won't want to be climbing back up the million stairs to get your wallet.

While we were at this stunning location, we decided to take advantage and shoot a few images of the Maya Play Dress. I love the way the shots turned out but it really was quite the task! The spray coming off of the falls was getting all over the lens and frizzed up my hair the moment we got there. I swear my hair looked much better about 10 minutes before this, but it was no match for this combination of humidity and water spray. I can't say that I really mind though -- just ads a little wild touch.

This dress is one that I had envisioned very early on in my sketching. I love a good white dress and seem to live in them throughout the summer. It's the perfect item to throw on and go for pretty much any occasion and can be worn in so many different ways. My favorite is obviously barefoot at the edge of a waterfall, but throw on a denim jacket and converse sneakers and you've got a totally different look! It's also so cute with a pair of beat up boots at a festival or with heels and a leather jacket for a night out. I see this dress as such an all-rounder and it will be coming with me on all my upcoming travels. Every girl needs a piece like this that she can turn to when she feels like she has nothing to wear.

Our next trip is to the Hunter Valley in Australia and I think it will fit in very nicely amongst all of the vineyards. I can't wait to be sipping a glass of wine on our balcony overlooking the vines (or orchards -- not sure which room we'll get) and soaking in the last bit of warmth from the day. xoxo
