Wine Tasting in the Hunter Valley

Fashion and travel blogger, Alison Hutchinson, is wearing a grey sweater dress and long wool vest for a day of wine tasting in the Hunter Valley
I've only gone on 3 wine tasting tours in my life, but I would have to say that it's one of my favorite things to do.
This time, we just did a half day tour but it was plenty -- I'm not sure we would have survived the full day! We booked with a company called Two Fat Blokes and they took us to 3 wine tastings and gave us a mini tour of the area. Three wineries may not sound like a whole lot, but when they each give you between 7 to 10 wines to taste, it definitely adds up!

I'm not always a tour-group kind of person, but for some reason I love it when it's for wine tasting. You get driven around so no need to worry about a designated driver, you see some spots you may not have otherwise visited, and the social aspect of the group makes it more fun. On this day, we went to 2 family run wineries that only sell at their cellar door and ended up at the Two Fat Blokes location were we did a wine and cheese pairing. I don't eat cheese so I thought I would just do the wines alone, but they were so amazing they put together a little antipasto platter for me as a substitute (good thing too because I was getting a little tipsy by this point!). I love amazing service like this -- it always makes me so happy to recommend.

For the day, I wanted to be comfortable and warm but still look presentable as we were going to some nice places. Luckily, Ollie's mom is incredibly fashionable and has loaned me some warmer items to wear while we're in Australia (I had mostly planned for tropical destinations when we set out 10 months ago). So although I would like to take credit for finding these two gorgeous pieces, it was actually all her.

I feel like during the spring and fall, I could easily live in nothing but sweater dresses every day. You still feel like you're not in full-blown winter because your legs are out, but the cozy long sweater keeps the chill away. And even though the sweater dress is amazing on its own -- it think the look really comes together with the long wool vest thrown over-top. Quite a bit warmer once the sun went down as well.
