Run With The Stars

"Dwell on the beauty of life. Watch the stars and see yourself running with them" - Marcus Aurelius

I'm not sure what's happened, but since being home I've been so inspired to create new things. I felt like I was in a bit of a rut with my blog, especially since this is primarily a fashion blog and trying to shoot photos of clothes from the one suitcase I traveled with for the past year, grew a little repetitive and uninspiring. On top of that, I've always relied 100% on Ollie for shooting my photos and for the past year he's been incredibly busy with work and the last thing he's wanted to do with his free time was shoot photos of me (understandably). And so, I wasn't shooting many photos and always felt like I was letting myself down by not having the best blog I could have. Super bad timing when I'm traveling the world for an entire year and had so many dreams for this space... But you know what? I had an amazing time and was truly able to live in the moment -- a lesson I'm incredibly grateful to have learned.

When I got back to Canada, I was having a conversation with my bestie and she asked why I no longer blog very much anymore. I told her my struggle and she said "why don't you just shoot yourself?" So matter of fact and like, "duh" that I went home and pretty much started dabbling with self portraits straight away. Like I mentioned before, the quality is nowhere near as good as Ollie's photography, but I like having the control over my photos and my blog so I feel like it's an ok compromise for now. It's pushing me to try harder and finally learn how to work a DSLR for the first time and it's bringing out so much inspiration and creativity that had been lying dormant in me for so long. I feel completely re-energized and excited for this space again.

One thing I really wanted to try was photography using a projector. I had watched a video of a photoshoot where the model was nude and her shape was casting shadows using a projector and it got the wheels turning. My parents have a projector in their home and with the solar eclipse coming up, my mind has been in the stars so I thought I would use that. I love the way the grids and the harsh light from the projector give the images a grungy 90s feel and although it's very different from my normal style, I'm kind of obsessed with them.

I would love to hear your thoughts on these shots! I can't wait to do some more creative work in this space. xoxo
