Transitioning Florals for Fall

Happy Sunday friends! I'm having a real appreciation for Victoria moment...
I had a photoshoot with a photographer from Toronto yesterday and we were both loving the fact that you can go to a beautiful beach on a sunny weekend day and have absolutely no-one there. I shouldn't say no-one as there is always one or two people walking past with their dog but compared to both Vancouver and Toronto, the place is totally deserted. It has allowed me to have so much more fun with shooting photos and I've been enjoying it to so much. I love finding a spot amongst the rocks (like in these shots), setting up my camera and taking my time to play around with different settings, angles and poses. I end up taking way more photos when I'm doing self portraits but I think it's because there is a lot more trial and error when you're alone. It has allowed me to understand my camera so much more than I ever did since buying it over a year ago and it has me feeling so much more inspired. Not every shoot works out and I like some much more than others, but this is the case when shooting with photographers as well so I think it just comes down to practice and patience (I definitely have less of the latter on some days...)

On this day, I had left the location thinking there were no usable shots. The sunlight was so harsh and I couldn't get the settings quite right. They were definitely not what I had envisioned them to be, but I took it as more of an editing challenge and decided to have some fun with it. I tried some new techniques to create a mood and I'm really happy with the end result. I don't usually alter the colors too much in post, but I love it when other people do so I thought I'd give it a try as well. I'm far from a pro at editing but I'm quite proud of myself for getting some usable shots out of this day. I love this dress and the view so much that I had to figure out a way to show them to you!

With fall looming, we're all thinking of ways that we can transition our summer clothes. I, for one, never want to give up my summer dresses any time before October so I'm constantly pairing them with boots and jackets to get as much out of them as I can. Luckily, florals are quite big for fall this year, so it's super simple to transition them. This particular day was quite warm so I didn't need a jacket, but I wore boots rather than sandals and that alone gives it more of an autumnal feel. Once the sun went down, I threw a denim jacket over-top and voila! The perfect summer to fall transition look 💗
