Summer Feels

I've got to admit, when we first got back to Victoria I had thought we made a huge mistake. Now don't get me wrong -- I love this city and think it is absolutely stunning, but it was just so COLD.
It tends to be much sunnier here than most other places on the West Coast, but it is also much windier and at least 3 degrees colder at any given time. The sunshine definitely helps, but when you've spent the last 2 years in tropical climates and 21 Celsius feels cold to you, this place can be a bit of a shock to the system. After 2 months, I feel like I've mostly acclimatized now, but there's only been about 2 days where I could comfortably leave the house without a sweater for backup.

Luckily, summer seems to have finally arrived and I'm seeing the light at the end of the tunnel. We live in a really beautiful neighborhood and this beach is just at the end of the road. It seems to be protected from the wind and is secluded enough that not many people venture down there. If you know me, you understand how much I love hidden gems like this so I couldn't be happier that it's so close to home. Every time I come to this spot, I feel so incredibly lucky to live in such a beautiful place. I don't know if this will be where we stay forever, but for now it feels pretty incredible. Also, I looooove our little townhouse so that definitely helps :)

This particular day was one of the warm ones so I packed up my camera and headed to my new fave spot. I haven't taken self-portraits in about a year so it was a bit of a rough start but I think I'm getting the hang of it once again. It's nice to have these quiet locations where I can set up a tripod and not have to worry about someone running away with my camera. I definitely get a few funny looks whenever anyone walks past and usually at least one person will offer to take my photo for me, but it's nice to be able to take my time and find a location that I love without feeling as though I'm inconveniencing someone else by asking them to take my photos for me. Plus, once I'm done, I can sit and enjoy the view for as long as I like afterwards.

So now that I've got a home base, I'm finding that the shopping bug is getting to me a bit. I'm trying to take the same mentality towards new things that I had while living out of a suitcase, being that I will only buy something when I feel like it's filling a gap in my wardrobe or is replacing another item that I've worn to death (or am just super sick of). I did do a little spree in the Aritzia sale (this bodysuit included) and bought a couple of things while we were in New York a couple of weeks ago (recap coming up next!) but other than that I'm actually quite proud of myself!

Like I said, this bodysuit is a new addition to my wardrobe, and I'm already so happy that I bought it. It has the perfect scoop neck and back, allows you to wear a bra (if you so choose) and has a thong bottom so no VPL. The perfect item, really. It comes in a bunch of other colors and is currently on sale so I really recommend it! I'm sort of thinking I might need it in other colors as well...

So the bodysuit is pretty amazing, but the BEST part is these sandals that I bought while we were in New York. I had been looking for some sandals to replace the black ones I wore non-stop during our travels (the ones I wore here) but was being incredibly picky because I was adamant that they needed to be just as comfortable. Well, low and behold a sandal that is actually even more comfortable and oh so cute. I found them in Barney's, but don't let that dissuade you -- they're actually a really reasonable price! I think I love them so much because they fit my narrow(ish) foot without slipping off and the suede is super soft so it doesn't rub anywhere. I wore them for a day of walking around New York in the heat and didn't get a single blister.  I really can't sing their praises enough.

Anyways, I know this is a super basic look, but it's one that I live in most days. It's comfortable, cute and easy to wear. Definitely the vibes I've been going for lately.
