Black Shorts

I hope you all had a fantastic week! I hate it that I didn't have any new pictures to put up the whole time, but sometimes life and work have other ideas. But luckily I have the best boyfriend in the whole wide world, and even thought he did 27 hours of overtime last week, he was still happy to go for a walk to take some pics and then have a nice dinner and glass of wine afterwards :)

These pictures were taken along the seawall in False Creek and I love the background in them. I would want to shoot here much more often, but we got a LOT of funny looks. People were making a couple of trips back and one man hung around for far too long -- kinda creepy. But then again, I guess it is sorta weird that I'm hanging out in minus a bazillion temperature wearing next to nothing and taking pictures while looking off into the distance... I might stare too.

After taking some pics, we went for an amazing dinner at the Smoking Dog Bistro in Kits. I was expecting a casual pub meal, but it was actually a very nice restaurant. And the wine is always much appreciated after a long week of work :)

Thank so much for your support and your lovely comments -- I really appreciate it! I hope you all have a wonderful Saturday!

Spring Trench

Hello and Happy Hump Day!

Ollie has been super swamped at work for the last couple of days so we haven't been able to take any pictures :(  To be fair, this is probably the best possible week for him to deny me our photo sessions because it has been raining non-stop for the last 3 days and is supposed to for the rest of the week as well. But I'm feeling some separation anxiety from this blog so I wanted to talk about fashion!

So, now that the nice spring weather is beginning (well not here but you know what I mean), I'm realizing how desperate I am for a new trench coat --- among other things. I've been spending the evening looking at a million different versions of the same thing and am realizing that this time I want something a little different than the usual, especially since I already own one that is very basic and don't really  like it anymore. I came across this Burberry trench with leather sleeves and am in love! I can't afford this exact one, but if someone knows where I can find something similar for about half the price, please do share with the class :)

Oh, and I've just discovered Fashiolista and am absolutely addicted! It's like playing virtual shopping with anything you could possibly imagine. Check it out on the left-hand side of the page. So fun :)

Dressing up in Jewellery

I hope you all had a great weekend! It was so gorgeous here in Vancouver, it has given me such an energy boost. I feel like spring is actually here. Especially today -- I was outside in just a tanktop and was completely fine! I don't know how long I would have lasted like this, but for the 30 seconds it was lovely :)

Yesterday, we took some photos for Tarryl M Jewellery at my apartment that I am in the middle of moving out of. The view from this place is so amazing -- I'm going to miss it! It was such a perfect goodbye to the apartment and it was so much fun dressing up in all the beautiful pieces. She brought over a huge bag filled with all the bracelets, necklaces, rings and earrings and I just wanted to run away with it!

The new line of jewellery is so gorgeous. Everything is handmade (even the silver) and is genuine gemstones and sterling silver. She hand-picks every single stone that goes into each piece. The thing that I love about this jewellery is the ability to mix and match everything. I personally like it the best when it is stacked on with a mix of bright colours!

Tarryl also brought her dog, Sophie, along with her. Isn't she the cutest thing you've ever seen? Tarryl and Ollie dressed her up while they were waiting for me to change. She just sat there perfectly still for the pictures -- I think they should have just gone with her the whole time!

If you are interested in any of these pieces, you can visit Tarryl M Jewellery here and send her an email. Everything is custom made so you can pick and choose exactly what you want.

Peach Flowers

Happy Friday everyone! I swear that I have never been so happy for a Friday in my whole life (at least since last Friday anyway). It has felt like a long time coming and so well deserved. I'm really going to savor this one :)

After a very long day of work, I went to Zara and bought a couple of new things (which I'll show you soon) and then went for some drinks and appys at Earls -- which I haven't been to in months! It was a perfect end to the week.

Now we're relaxing at home and watching some Netflix -- trying to sober up so that we're totally chipper for the morning and our photo shoot for Tarryl M Jewelry. Can't wait!

These pictures are from lunch today. Ollie and I went for a walk at the water near our work. It was a very different experience to our shoots (if you can call them that) so far. We are usually in our comfortable neighborhood with only a few people around. Today, there were so many people and I completely froze! You can probably tell by the pics, but hopefully you will like the ones that I've posted.  I almost completely chickened out, but maybe this will help me with my confidence as well :)

Thank you so much for your lovely comments and all the amazing support!

Blue Shoes

Is this the longest week in history or what? I don't know what the deal is, but I feel like it will never end. I think I'm just over-eager for the weekend and can't wait for it to get here! Especially since it's meant to be sunny the whole time. Yay!

On Saturday, I'm taking pictures of a girlfriend's jewelry line and I can't wait to show you the pictures. She has some amazing stuff and it's all made from semi-precious stones and sterling silver. It's so beautiful, I hope my pictures do it justice. We'll just have to wait and see on Saturday! You can check out some of her designs here.

Last night, Ollie and I went to see Safe House. We had meant to see 21 Jump Street but it was all sold out, so we went for the only one that wasn't! And it actually turned out to be really amazingly good! Lots of action (pretty much non-stop), so I guess you have to be in the mood for it -- which I always am!

My outfit for yesterday was based around my blue shoes -- which I've been DYING to wear. Finally, the weather was perfect, so I got my chance. Unfortunately, they cut into my feet a lot, but that just takes some working in! Plus, I was walking in them for like an hour straight, so I think that makes it understandable. Either way, I love these shoes and I'm committed to breaking them in. I won't rest until they're wearable!

Pencil Skirt

Yesterday was the first day of Spring and it is such a pleasure to know that it is finally here! Today, the sunny weather actually came along with it and I was finally able to wear some of my new spring clothes. These pics are from yesterday when the blossoms were out, but it definitely was still chilly! I took off my tights for the pictures, but I wouldn't have wanted to be outside for too long like that :)

This look is a very typical work look for me. Black pencil skirt, blouse and heels. Very simple and easy to wear. I go out to a lot of meetings (many of which are unexpected) every day so I always need something that works for in the office as well as meeting with clients. I feel this is a perfect outfit for both. The bag is perfect for work because it holds absolutely everything -- laptop, iPad, wallet and change of shoes. I swear it would hold enough clothes for a whole week away!

I changed my top to go out afterwards, so we took pictures of both looks. Which one do you like better?

Spring is here!

Vancouver Fashion Blogger, Alison Hutchinson, wearing Forever 21 Leather Jacket, and Zara Black Pencil Skirt.

Today is the first day of Spring and I really feel it in the air! I swear that there are beautiful blossoms overnight -- it's as if they knew it was their time to bloom. Gorgeous!

This is just a quick post -- I'll show the rest of the outfit tomorrow. Just wanted to wish everyone a happy spring and a good night!

Grey Sweater

Sunday afternoon, the sun came out so we went straight down to the water. It was so gorgeous and the light was perfect. I really love the way these photos turned out. It makes me so excited for Spring!

I wore a grey turtleneck and some leggings with my motorcycle boots so that I could keep warm down at the water. Even though it looks warm, it's actually quite chilly still :)

Comfy Sunday

Happy Sunday! I wish this weekend could keep going, but it has been a good one. I've moved most of my things over to Ollie's place and have gotten all of the heavy stuff out of my old apartment. Just some last bits and cleaning left -- so nice to get that out of the way. Now we just need to get a wardrobe to fit my things into (never very much closet space in Kits apartments unfortunately). After moving, we went for Tapas with my family to La Bodega. Soooo tasty! I love tapas and this place is amazing. I really recommend it :)

Today was a nice lazy day. I went to yoga in the morning (I guess I wasn't that lazy) and then hung around waiting for the technician to come and hook up our internet and cable -- he was only 4 hours late! Seems to always be the way... So, we hung around, ate some Thai and took some pics of me in my "at home" clothes. These are pretty much my yoga clothes with some comfy UGGs as my slippers (brought back from Australia by my boyfriend -- and I live in them at home!).

Casual Friday

Happy Friday! I'm so glad it's the weekend, I can't even explain it. It has been a very long week and I am so happy to have two days off. This weekend, I'm finally starting to move all of my things over to Ollie's place. I've been staying here for eight months and am finally moving my things in. It will be so nice to have all of my clothes, jewelry and makeup back. I can't wait! I also can't wait to officially be living together :)

Fridays at work are always casual Fridays and I love it! My outfit usually consists of a pair of jeans, heels and a blazer. Today, I wore a black blazer, but decided to change into a grey one for the photos.  I'm really noticing how much black I wear -- I really need to change this. It's so nice to have a lookbook of your clothes to reflect on your own style. I'm really loving this :)

Workday Florals

Tuesday was the most gorgeous day that we have had in a long time! It was so nice to be able to get off work when it is still light out (thank you daylight savings!) and sunny too! It's still quite cold, but I don't mind. I'll take it :)

After work, Ollie and I wanted to take advantage and head straight out to take some pictures. It's a good thing we didn't wait because we only had about 15 minutes of it! But, it is a sign of good things to come. After the snow (yes SNOW) yesterday, we have another gorgeous day today. If it lasts, I think we will have to go out and shoot some more.

I decided to wear my floral skirt from Zara with a black shirt and blazer without even dreaming that the sun would come out. I think it was meant to be! This skirt is the ultimate work skirt because of the drawstring waist. Soooo comfy! When I can wear it with bare legs, it will be that much better. My blazer is from H&M and is a couple sizes too big on me, but I like it because I can move in it much easier. I hope you like it -- I think it's one of my new favourites for work!

Rainy Monday

This week has been pretty dreary in Vancouver -- lots of rain as per the usual. Yesterday, we had a gorgeous end to the day and thanks to daylight savings, we were able to take full advantage! But, alas, these photos are from Monday, when the weather was much like today -- rain, rain, rain.

Once I got home from work, I changed straight into some comfy clothes, put on my riding boots, jeans and hoodie and headed out for sushi with Ollie. On our way to the sushi restaurant, we decided to take a couple of photos and this is how they turned out (please don't mind the rain splotches on my clothes). Rain will never stop a Vancouverite!

Oysters on Saturday

Saturday night was super chilled -- drank some wine at a girlfriend's place and then went to Chewies Oyster Bar for  a glass of wine and some oysters with Ollie. Yum!! I love that place and am so happy to have discovered it right by my house. Now I don't have to go all the way to Yaletown and wait ages at Rodneys :)
I was really in the mood to get dressed up, so I decided to wear a bodycon dress and high ankle boots that I toned down with a loose sweater and scarf over top. This is my favorite sweater from Aritzia but I now have a pull in the back of it from a hook on my bra. If anyone knows of a way to get this fixed, I'm all ears!
It's still super cold in Vancouver so I still have to wear layers and tights so that I don't freeze to death. I can't wait for the spring weather that the rest of the world seems to be enjoying right now!

Hello Blogging World!

After a couple of years of being completely obsessed by fashion and lifestyle blogs, I have finally decided to start my own. I am so excited to share my passions, inspirations and guilty pleasures.

I live in Vancouver, Canada -- a city that has been deemed "one of the worst-dressed cities in the world" due to our overuse of yoga attire as everyday clothing. Don't get me wrong, I could easily live in my lululemon hoodie and pants, but I love nothing more that playing and experimenting with fashion and makeup.

I have named my blog "Styling my Life" because I will be posting about all aspects of style that I love -- focusing mainly on beauty, fashion and lifestyle and hopefully some travel, whenever I get the chance :)
