If I ever had any reservations about becoming a digital nomad, they went straight out the window the moment I laid eyes on my first Australian beach. The warm sand, the endless blues and that addictive salty wind (as Ollie's mom says: "free beach hair!").
We've been pretty lucky to have most beaches all to ourselves since being here, but yesterday was a bit of a wake-up call with all of the kids being on school holidays for the week. I got a taste of what summer looks like at these beaches and it's not quite as tranquil or serene as in these shots. I was feeling a little sad that we would miss the amazing beach weather in Australia, but now I'm realizing that we actually hit the perfect time. Beautiful warm weather with the whole place to ourselves. Exactly the way I like it.
We've been here for 3 weeks now and are just over half way through this leg of our trip. Our tickets to Thailand are booked and we couldn't be more excited! Now that we have a firm date for leaving Australia, we feel that we've got to make sure we fit in everything we want to do while here. It obviously won't be possible, but we're certainly going to try!
The thing with being a digital nomad is that you actually have to fit work time in, while still taking time to check out the country. I know this doesn't sound like a terrible thing, but we're still finding our balance of work/play time. When we work non-stop, we feel that we're missing out on seeing the great things about where we are. On the other hand, when we are out traveling around, we feel like we are neglecting our work and need to buckle down. We've only just begun and obviously can't have everything figured out yet but I think we're starting to find our groove. For example, today is terrible and stormy in Sydney, so it is a work day. We'll probably work from about 8:30 am right until we go to bed at 11 or so, with a couple of breaks to eat and maybe take a walk. It's a long day, but this way we can get a lot over and done with at once, and then spend a day or two doing the fun things! And that's the whole reason we're working anyways, isn't it?

I'll keep giving you updates on how this digital nomad thing is going as we figure it out. I have a feeling it will be a lot of trial and error, but so far it's the best decision ever!

DeleteSo glad to hear you're liking Australia. I know in Melbourne especially sometimes we'll have amazing beach days but then sometimes the weather is the exact opposite!

SO true! This week has really been like that. We're hoping that today will be nice and warm. Heading to some beaches down south this time. I really wish we could have made it to Melbourne, but we've run out of time. Maybe next time!
DeleteYou look like Behati Prinsloo!! Love the shorts...can I ask what size you take? I'm a similar size and have heard they fit large.
ReplyDeleteThank you so much! That is such a compliment. I have a size 28 in the bandits, but I think I would go down to a 27 because they do fit a bit large. I'm 5'9" and have a 27 inch waist and 37 inch hips. I hope that helps!
