We've been in Chiang Mai for exactly one week now and I feel like I'm starting to get the swing of things.
We've found a really great apartment that we feel comfortable in and some amazing local food spots that are ridiculously delicious and cheap. I can't say that I've fallen head over heels for the city just yet, but I'm not going to give up on it until I've explored a little more.
We found a modern one bedroom that has a kitchen (very rare apparently), a western style washroom (which means it has a separate area for the shower), a gym and a rooftop pool. I think this apartment has been my saving grace because after all of the beautiful long beaches and clear blue water in Australia, the traffic, pollution and sticky hot closed in feeling of this place has left me feeling a little claustrophobic. I'm a beach girl and always will be, but a pool is the next best thing (and I LOVE our pool) so I have a sanctuary here.
So far, we've stuck to our own neighborhood, but this week is meant to be a little cooler than the last, so I'm hoping to venture out and see the old city with all the temples and touristy sights. I think that is the area that makes everyone fall in love with Chiang Mai, so I'm pretty excited to check it out. Can you believe I haven't seen a single temple yet? Definitely need to fix this asap.

Like I mentioned in my last post, I'm still adjusting to the heat, but I feel like each day is getting a little better. I'm still trying to stick to the black theme, but as you might be able to tell -- it's getting lighter and shorter. I did throw on a black kimono top when we left for dinner, but the short shorts stayed on. A girl's gotta be comfortable!
To be totally honest, after wearing this out, nobody seemed to care what I was wearing or even notice in the slightest. Also, I feel like even the locals are starting to add lighter colors into their outfits so I think I might start incorporating some colors and see how it goes. I definitely want to be respectful of the Thai people, but there's only so much sweating I can take!

I can only imagine how you must feel being in Chiang Mai - it's so different from Australia for sure. Well, enjoy your time there anyway!

It really is sooooo different! But that's not always a bad thing. It's just that I miss the beach so much! I'm sure I'll adjust soon enough :)

I can't imagine the adjustment that you're going through, but it sounds like you found the perfect apartment! That's always a great start!

It really is quite the adjustment, but I think I'm liking it a little more each day. The apartment definitely helps :)
