What a magical day. If you were lucky enough to witness the solar eclipse, you will know what I mean.
In Victoria, we were able to see 90% coverage of the sun and even this was so incredible. We had discussed driving down to Oregon where you could see it at 100% but it turned out that hotels and airbnbs were charging crazy amounts so we decided to pass. Where we are, you still had to keep the solar glasses on the entire time but it really was such a cool thing. Most likely once in a lifetime. What I was the most surprised at was how cold it became during the eclipse. I was wishing I had a jacket with me and this is on a warm summer day. All the wasps and bugs went away (super nice because our backyard is overrun with them at the moment) and it felt like the world was slowing down just for a few moments.
Since it was such a beautiful day, I thought I would take advantage and test out the new remote I got for my camera. My dad showed me a beautiful spot nearby which is usually deserted and I had a play around with my new toy. Honestly, this thing is a total game changer. I was able to take so many more photos and was able to choose locations that might have been a little too hard to run to while using the timer. I also felt like it gave me a little more time to pose properly so there were less blooper shots (although those can be pretty hilarious) and I was able to play around with the settings and still have the camera focus on me properly. Seriously -- if you are interested in self portraits at all, I would definitely recommend getting one for yourself.
I've wanted to shoot this beautiful Auguste dress for quite a while now but keep saving it for that perfect location. I'm sure other bloggers would know what I mean -- you don't want to waste a special dress on a mediocre location but today, for some reason, I felt was the right time. I didn't even have a specific location in mind (my dad showed me this one last minute), I just felt like it. And I'm so happy that I did! I probably would have never ended up shooting it if I had waited for that perfect location and then I wouldn't have been able to show you this special dress. They still have a few in this style, but a different print which is just as beautiful. If you've never had this brand on your radar before, I would really suggest giving them a chance. The designs and fabrics are so beautiful and always make me feel like a million bucks.
