Wedding Trip | Sydney to Broken Head

swimming at Brokenhead Beach | Alison Hutchinson
We arrived in Sydney a couple of weeks before our wedding day to give ourselves time to wrap up any loose ends and acclimatize to the new timezone. I'm not sure about you, but Ollie and I both get terrible jet-lag whenever we travel and the last thing either of us wanted was to barely remember our big day.

Since we gave ourselves plenty of time, we were able to make a little roadtrip of it with Ollie's family. We took a couple of days to drive up the coast and this way we were able to have a couple of cars available for while we were there.

I don't seem to have too many photos of this leg of the trip, but luckily it's pretty solid in the memory bank. The best part was definitely arriving in Broken Head and seeing our beautiful accommodation and then the cherry on top was the most perfect beach that we were to be married at.

Since we were having a teeny tiny wedding, with just our immediate families, we decided to find a location that could accommodate everyone and make a little holiday of it. The 3 criteria were: it was at the beach, it had enough space for everyone, and it could suitably host the wedding dinner. We weren't able to find anything that fully met all 3 criteria, but luckily we found The Pavilions at Broken Head because we were able to rent 2 villas and then it worked out perfectly! You never know what you're really going to get when you book everything online from a different country, but luckily this time, both the house and the beach were even more beautiful that the photos showed.

The morning of our wedding, Ollie and I went for a long walk on the stunning Broken Head beach and went for a swim in the ocean (that's the photo above). We weren't prepared for it, so we went in fully (well, partially) clothed and it is so perfectly us. I love having that memory of that day -- just the 2 of us before all the activity started.

In the next post, I'll share my wedding photos (EEK!!). I can't wait for you to see them.
